Accutron Men's 26C02 Gemini Automatic Chronograph Leather Watch Reviews

Product Description

Stainless steel case. Brown leather strap. Black patterned dial. Tachymeter. Valjoux 7750 automatic chronograph. Domed anti-reflective sapphire crystal. Luminous hands and markers. Screw back with exhibition window. Water resistant at 50 meters (165 feet)
A great match for both professional settings and sporty casual couture, this Accutron Gemini stainless steel men's chronograph (model 26C02) matches an elegant design with the powerfully precise, 25 jewel Valjoux 7750 automatic movement. This large-sized, round watch features a rounded, stepped bezel that frames a black patterned dial face. It's complemented by three chronograph subdials, luminous dagger hands, small minute/seconds indexes, large day and date window at 3 o'clock, and tachymeter readings around the exterior (which can be used to measure time over distance). It's completed by a brown leather strap with distressed texturing. Other features include a domed, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, screw-back with exhibition window, and water resistance to 50 meters (165 feet)--suitable for swimming but not for diving.

An automatic (or self-winding) watch is fitted with a device (rotor) that automatically winds the spring by using the force of gravity. It needs no battery, but it will stop if you have been physically inactive for an extended period of time--as long as you're moving, the watch will stay powered. Swiss watchmaker Abraham-Louis Perrelet invented the self-winding mechanism in 1770. It worked on the same principle as a modern pedometer, and was designed to wind as the owner walked.

5 "Very nice watch for the dollar" 2009-12-30
By Robert A. McCuaig (Calgary, Alberta Canada)
The watch is well finished. The dial is slightly busy for my taste. The case is very clean, no unecessary adornments on it, it is very pleasant to look at. I've never had a mechanical Chrono before so when I was doing research into the movements [valjoux 7750], crystals [saphire] A good number of timepieces with these started at 1000 dollars and up. I've just received the watch so I can't speak for it's accuracy untill it gets worn in. The strap is attractive. The deployment clasp on the strap is a mixed blessing. It will keep the strap from getting beat up from using the buckle every time you put it on your wrist. The clasp isn't quite as comfortable as the metal bracelets that I'm used to. The watch isn't too large nor is it too heavy and as others have pointed out it can be worn with just about anything. If you're looking for a "luxury timepiece" with all the cachet that goes with it this is not your watch. If you're looking for an attractive well built mechanical watch from the manufacturer that originally led the movement away from mechanical watches some 50 or so years ago I think you'd be hard pressed to find a better watch for the money. The seller, MyTimepiece was great as well.

5"Simply a great watch that everyone can appreciate" 2009-09-25

This watch ranks high on my list of favorite purchases - higher than any car, cell phone, article of clothing, and possibly right up there with my camera and lens collection. It is stylish but not flashy, modern but not too edgy, classic but not stodgy, and bold but not pretentious. I am hardpressed to find an outfit that this watch does not compliment, and even after 28 years of going watch-less I can hardly imagine going out bare-wristed anymore. It tells time well enough, and from what I've read the movement on which this watch is based is very accurate for a mechanical piece. The wobble is an ecentricity that has really grown on me - its very interesting feeling the watch "working" on your wrist. That it's an automatic watch is a nice finishing touch for me. I have not had to manually wind the watch since taking it out of its box (which is also very, very nice).

I believe the case is considered to be on the large side but I haven't found it cumbersome, and I do not have particularly large wrists. It suits me just fine. I've used the chronograph functions (mostly when working out or just for fun around the office, like timing the speech of someone I know to be very long-winded). I'm still looking for a situation where I can use the tachymeter but there are not long stretches of roads with mile markers where I frequently drive. The strap is distressed brown leather with contrast stitching detail and nicely spaced adjustment positions for the deployment buckle, which took some getting used to for me but now I like it. I don't see how the strap can be easily replaced although I'm no jeweler - I'm sure it could be done if you wanted to change it. A brown leather strap just so happened to be one of my requirements for the watch, so I'm keeping it.

For not being a very flashy watch at all, the watch has gotten a lot of compliments. I see watches as much an accessory as they are timepieces, and so finding my first watch required finding one that had as much form as it does function, and in my opinion this watch has both in spades.

The Accutron Gemini Chrono is an amazing value. The watch has been beautifully finished and for the price you can't find a comparable watch with Valjoux 7750 movement. It's a "star" in my collection....

5"Great Automatic" 2009-02-03

This watch is hands down the best bang for the buck automatic around. It's great looking and can be worn with anything. The movement is proven and is found in watches from 1000 to 3000 dollars; I paid 500. I even got the manufacturer's 5 year warranty through mytimepiece.com. Highly recommend this watch to anyone.

5"Superb and stylish mechanical watch" 2008-02-16

As a current owner of a Citizen Calibre 8700, I wanted something with a brown leather strap and a little higher end, but that would still function in a similar fashion. The Accutron Gemini 26C02, for nearly half of retail cost on Amazon (great service from seller MyTimepiece.com BTW), is a superb way to own a mechanical Swiss watch without shelling out thousands of dollars. It has day and date, second hand for time keeping, and the ability to wind it both from the crown or simply by wearing it. The watch is nice and big and looks incredibly classy with a t-shirt or dress shirt. The addition of a view window on the back is nice for seeing the 7750 movement in action. Not much more to say than that you would be hard-pressed to find a better sub-$1000 watch that looks this good and functions so well. Last watch I plan on purchasing for a few years, until I can save up for an Omega.
